Music was at the centre of Ruth's upbringing in Wales, frequently performing with international award-winning choir Ysgol Gerdd Ceredigion, The National Youth Orchestra of Wales, alongside many chamber and solo performances and competitions. Growing up on a farm not only allowed her to practice at all hours at all volumes, but also nourished her strong connection to nature and love for animals.

Ruth attributes her love for music to the vibrant musical culture of Wales, owing a debt of gratitude towards two particularly inspirational teachers she had during her school days, Islwyn Evans and Stephen Pilkington.
